Week 4: End of the pre-service training for CAL Fellows
This week our teachers spent every evening assisting in one of the classrooms of the evening centre.
On Monday we started the week off with a quick reflection on the program and then they each did an 8 to 10-minute presentation on :
- Which teaching methods, Management methods and leadership methods that they choose to apply in their teaching practice?
- Tools that they felt needed less priority and why?
- How the chosen teaching methods would contribute to their vision, goals and objectives as a teacher.
We evaluated them on their presentations and offered feedback, thereafter we spent the rest of the day training them in Assessments and Evaluation and explored the various ways in which assessments can support learning.
We also prepared them for Tuesday and Wednesday.
By Monday, we had assigned each teacher a classroom, a time and a lesson that they would need to prepare for and teach on Tuesday and Wednesday.
They handed in their lesson plans early and then Ramesh, Rajeeka and I, visited them in the schools to observe their teaching.
We then evaluated their work and gave them written feedback on how well they did in their classroom.
Rajeeka did one on one feedback sessions with each one of them and discussed their overall performance in the following areas:
a. Overall Teaching Experience.
b. Engagement & interaction.
c. Communication Skills.
d. Assessment & Feedback. e. Classroom Management.
