Reflection from one of our trainees…
“Everything that we learnt was new, yet what we learnt resonated with what knew already. It was an inspiration for the kind of teacher I want to be… The way I learn and how children learn is different. So, I need to figure out how I can inspire the same values and ideas in ways that my students will understand.
I felt like a child making a puppet, and it helped me think like a child and break out of my comfort zone. The power of play became very evident to me and helped me become more aware of how games can be used in teaching. I am grateful that it was never a one-way communication, but it was a reflective discussion which helped us think deeply about what these ideas meant to us as people.
I knew about the problems that exist in our community, but I did not know how to define them and think about why these problems exist. I learnt not to accept the circumstances but to start questioning why and the need to be curious enough to understand the root causes for the inequity that exists in our community. We also need to start exploring the part we play in solving these social issues. I hope that I will be able to discuss this more with the people in my community and talk about leadership and inequity.”
